Christopher Phelps is a scholar of twentieth-century American intellectual, political, and cultural history. His writings examine the history of philosophy, political thought, social dissent, popular movements, race and racism, and literature and society. The author of Young Sidney Hook (Cornell University Press, 1997; University of Michigan Press, with a new preface, 2005), Phelps has written for periodicals such as The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Nation, New Politics, American Quarterly, The Journal of American History, and The American Historical Review .
